Who Are We?

We are the Bahá'ís of Pender Island located in the Canadian portion of the Salish Sea on the southwest coast of the province of British Columbia.

We believe that Bahá'u'lláh—born into a privileged life in 19th century Iran that would have offered Him high status had He not chosen as a young man to care for the poor—founded humanity's newest world religion. That the Bahá'í Faith has, in less than 200 years, become a world religion is beyond dispute. Established in 235 countries and territories, adopted by people representing more than 2,000 tribes, cultures, and ethnic groups, and with adherents numbering in the millions, the Bahá'í Faith is well able to lay claim to what Encyclopedia Britannica describes as the second most widespread religion in the world.

Global Community: A Bahá'í Perspective

“So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth.”

Global Community: A Bahá'í Perspective is a new speaker series, developed by the Bahá'ís of Pender Island, that explores the essential role community plays in the life of humanity. A global community reflects the diverse cultures of the world and the Bahá'í community is as diverse as it comes. From Bushmen in the Kalahari to Inuit in Canada's far north; in Hollywood, California, and in the slums of Mumbai, Maharashtra; across oceans from Madagascar to Pender Island, Bahá'ís are engaged in developing communities that will ultimately unite the world.

“The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established.”

The Bahá'ís of Pender Island have invited speakers, well-versed in their subject, to present different aspects of the concept of community based on the teachings of Bahá'u'lláh; teachings that embrace the inherent spiritual dimension of us all. We invite you to attend the series!

“Communities that thrive and prosper will do so because they acknowledge the spiritual dimension of human nature and make the moral, emotional, and intellectual development of the individual a central priority.”
—Bahá'í International Community, Habitat II Conference, 1996

Devotional Gatherings

Bahá'í House of Worship, New Delhi, India

“Devotional meetings spring up naturally in a community where a conversation about the spiritual dimension of human existence is growing. In diverse settings, Bahá’ís and their friends and families unite with one another in prayer. There are no rituals; no one individual has any special role.
—Bahá'í International Community

We host a themed devotional gathering on the first Sunday of each month where Bahá'ís and friends get together to read, meditate, and be inspired by the teachings of the religions of the world. Our purpose is to honour the Creator in an atmosphere of peacefulness and respect for all on Pender Island and the world beyond our shores.
